A nice day in the sun, Argo and my kaleidoscope Gelli print zipper pouch finished

With our storm sewer drain flowing nicely, we were able to relax and sit in the sun for a couple of hours today. It was only about 5 degrees and there is tons of snow on the ground, but our back deck faces south so it protects against the cold north wind, and it was actually very toasty. So after a nice afternoon in the sun, I didn’t mind going inside to work on my gelli printing.

Actually, we had rented a movie that needed the last hour to be watched. It was Argo, and I can see why it won Best Picture Oscar…even though I knew the outcome of the situation, I was kept on edge for the whole last hour…they did a very good job of keeping the suspense level high. At least that was my feeling– my hubby was not as impressed, mostly because of how much they downplayed Canada’s role in the whole plan.

Once hubby and the dog went to sleep, I could escape to my sewing room and get to work(play). I finished my zipper pouch! It started with the kaleidoscope gelli design that I posted yesterday(http://wp.me/pXgo5-iS)

I took the kaleidoscope image, played a bit with the filter gallery in PSE and really liked the resulting image so I made it into a PSE  pattern.

I then printed this onto an inkjet fabric sheet to make a zippered pouch. I followed the instructions from http://blossomheartquilts.blogspot.jp/2012/08/how-to-make-zipper-ends-pretty.html  to add the  contrasting ends to the zipper and then sewed a simple lined pouch. Just a bit of machine quilting to highlight some of the stars.

I am quite happy with the results, especially since the fabric is my design!! I have to learn to iron the finished pieces before I take a photo- ironing will make the zipper lie flat and topstitching nice and even!!

I think if I get the fabric printed by Spoonflower it would be a better colour match, but I am happy anyways with the finished product.

  1. I just found you on the Gelli Plate fb page and I’m so glad I did! I have been wanting to play with my Gelli plate with fabric. I’m new at this so I don’t know some of the things you are talking about. What is PSE? Where do you buy fabric to put in inkjet printers? I’m very intrigued about this whole process and would love to know more about it. I’m going to take a look around your blog and see what I can learn : ) thanks for sharing!
