2016…and time for a new meme from Helena. This year it is “Snap”: between 2 and 4 photos that create a visual set.
Last Friday I attended an exhibit at the Manitoba Legislature….over 300 tapestry panels( each panel is 20 inches by 20 inches) from the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry. But don’t worry…I haven’t included all of them here!
These were 4 of my favorites….maybe because they had a sheep in it, or because I recognized the story…or just because I liked it.
#1. A close-up of one panel with a lovely sheep:
#2. A panel featuring Eric Liddell, the runner that I was aware of because of the movie “Chariots of Fire”:
#3. The poet of In Flanders Fields, the world’s most famous War Memorial Poem:
#4. And a panel that I just liked:
And one additional panel because I have a connection to it:
The above panel is of Alexander Mackenzie(an explorer for the North West Company) and his expedition to the Pacific Ocean across Canada in 1793. It was the first transcontinental crossing of North America north of Mexico, 12 years ahead of the Lewis and Clark expedition. My great, great, great, great-grandfather was second in command to Mackenzie on this expedition.
For the complete story, and photos of ALL the panels, please check here.

fascinating to have a personal connection to one of the pieces – they really are fabulous pieces and great to see they are now touring to visit the disporia – I saw them last year locally and was blown away by the all the work that went into each piece
