Snap: Preparations at The Forks

2016…and time for a new meme from Helena. This year it is “Snap”: between 2 and 4 photos that create a visual set.

With the onset of Winnipeg’s cold snap, preparations are underway at The Forks in Winnipeg for the new Great Ice Show and the annual Red River Mutual Trail. So 2 Snaps for this week.

Sculptors from China came to Winnipeg to carve snow and ice sculptures and I caught them in action(with their chainsaws and chisels) just days before the opening of the Great Ice Show this past Monday:

Heavy machinery, including a truck flooding the surface and several ice resurfacing machines(aka Zamboni), were out on the Red and Assiniboine Rivers to create hockey and curling rinks as well as the Red River Mutual ice skating trail.

Let the fun begin!!!

  1. I’d love to see these when they’re completed. We watched an ice carver at the Chicago Botanic Gardens last winter. It was on a much smaller scale, but fascinating to watch.

  2. I like the blue of the ice in your photos. It does make me laugh to read sculpting with chainsaws. Great Snap of the snap in the weather 🙂
