One Four Challenge for March Week 3: At The Forks

Back again for Month 5 of the One Four Challenge after missing month 4…though I almost forgot about it…March came up SO fast!!

Okay…I buckled down and followed the helpful comments from Carrie, Ben and Lens Addiction and played with the ND filter in Lightroom. I played with the edit from week 1 with basic Lightroom edits(toned down the saturation a tad), cropped it like week 2 and applied the filter. It was actually quite easy…and quite amazing!

The cloud detail came back very nicely:

nd filter with week 1 version 2

This week’s photo is a compromise between the dark original and over-exposed week 1. There is detail in the skaters and less blown-out highlights in the clouds. Maybe it could do with a bit more exposure or brightness…the photo was taken into the sun so the top bit will always be blown-out.

The splash of bright green just underneath the bridge is one of the warming huts along the river trail.

The gallery shows the original, week 1 and week 2:

Now to figure out what to do for week 4……….

  1. Yay for cloud details! Yes the ND grad is really cool and easy to use once you figure it out 🙂 I like to tweak the contrast and clarity up for cloud detail.

Its possible you could crop the bright sun bit out and still have a perfectly viable image left too 🙂
