Bookbinding- Longstitch

I took a short online class about Longstitch bookbinding by Diana Trout. It is a work-at-your-own-pace course which is great for me. Her videos and instructions were excellent and a nice introduction to a basic bookbinding stitch:

I finished 1 book and this is the front cover:

This second picture shows why the technique is called longstitch:

3 ribbons of paper were woven through the long stitch on the spine.

I used some purchased “handmade” paper for the cover, some lovely deckled papers for the inside(Diana showed a great method for tearing paper to produce a deckled edge) and added a leaf-button closure and a few beads. It didn’t take very long to do, so Stewie was not ignored for long!!

The second book she shows us how to do is with a hidden spine…so when get an hour or two….AFTER I work on my mom’s quilt of course.
